讲座摘要

South African novelist, Etienne van Heerden, talks about the role of the writer in a time of great shifts in power and culture in South Africa. The lecture will examine the role of the writer confronted with a past which often is as unpredictable as the future. He will discuss literature as a way of documenting the recent past (the fiction writer as 'New Journalist' or narrative historian) or the more distanced past (the fiction writer as 'contra-historian').
