      Ai Qing, known as the singer of the times and the poet of the people, has always kept a low profile and treated everyone sincerely. In 1953, Ai Qing returned to his hometown, Jinhua, to search for the contributions made by the east branch of Zhejiang Anti-Japanese Guerrilla during the Anti-Japanese War.

      艾青被誉为时代的歌手、人民的诗人，他一向低调、待人真诚。1953年，艾青为了搜寻浙东抗日游击队分支在抗日战争中做出的贡献，他专程回到家乡浙江金华，探寻英雄事迹。

      Returning to Jinhua, he checked into a small hotel. Hearing that Ai Qing came back to Jinhua, Hong Wenjuan, his sister-in-law, hurried to the hotel to visit him. But to her surprise, after a long time in the hotel, she did not find Ai Qing, and there wasn't his name in the passenger register. She had to leave the hotel after consideration. 

      回到金华后，他住进了当时城内的一个小旅馆。弟媳洪雯娟得知哥哥回到金华的消息，急忙去艾青下榻的旅馆寻找。但她在旅馆内寻找了良久都未找到，旅客登记簿上也没有艾青的名字。她只得先离开旅馆。

      Outside the hotel, she saw a door of one room open. Inside, a man looked like her husband, Jiang Haiji, was sewing buttons. Are you Haiji's brother? She asked, I am his wife. Hearing this, Ai Qing immediately put down the clothes that he was mending and gave her a seat. Hong Wenjuan said, I'll help you to sew. I can sew myself, Ai politely refused, I always carry the sewing bag with me, which is the Yan'an style.

      在旅馆外，她看见一个房间的门开着，里面有个男人在缝扣子，面孔与自己的丈夫蒋海济十分相似。她急忙上前询问：“您是不是海济的哥哥？我是他的妻子。”艾青听闻此言，立即放下正在修补的衣物，起身给她让坐。洪雯娟说：“我来帮您缝。”艾青说：“我的针线包是随身带的，这是延安的作风，我自己会缝。”

      Ai Qing also kept a low profile when he was back hometown. At first, the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department proposed to send two guards to protect Ai Qing for his safety, but Ai Qing refused resolutely. The department had to call the Jinhua Public Security Bureau. It later sent one guard to protect Ai Qing, which Ai reluctantly accepted.

      艾青回家乡后处事也十分低调。浙江省公安厅为了艾青的安全，提出派两个警卫员来保护他的安全，但艾青坚持不要。省公安厅只好打电话给金华公安处，后来，金华公安处提出只派一名警卫员护卫艾青，他才勉强接受。

      In 1992, Ai Qing was once again invited back to Jinhua to participate in a series of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the publication of Speech at the Forum of Art and Literature in Yan'an by president Mao. At that time, the Public Security Bureau also sent two guards for his safety, to which Ai Qing insisted saying: No need!

       1992年，艾青应邀再次回到金华，参加纪念毛泽东《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》发表五十周年系列的活动。当时，公安局为了保护他的安全，又派了两名警卫员在他身边，对此艾青又坚持说：“不需要！”

      Ai Qing has a clear understanding of his identity. Someone wrote a poem to praise Ai Qing as a messenger who will never be lonely. Ai Qing commented, I'm not sure whether I will never be lonely, but I just don't want people to speak highly of me, nor do I want people to belittle me.

       艾青对自己的身份有着清晰的认知。有人写诗赞颂艾青是“永不孤寂的使者”，艾青说：“永不孤寂不见得，我只是不愿意人家把我捧得很高，也不愿意人家把我贬得很低。”
